The European Union’s Structural Funds— —include the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). To create good living conditions for all EU citizens, the Structural Funds are intended to gradually harmonize the varying levels of development among the EU’s regions and member states. To achieve this, funding is primarily guided by the following objectives:

Through innovation, digitalization, economic transformation, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises, the goal is to create a smart Europe.
Closer ties with EU citizens will also be fostered by supporting local development strategies and sustainable urban development.
Investments in strategic transportation and digital networks, as well as in the energy transition, renewable energy, and the fight against climate change, are intended to better connect Europe and lead it toward a green, carbon-free future.
Last but not least, efforts are being made to create a more social Europe by promoting high-quality jobs, education, skills, social inclusion, and equal access to healthcare.

The main objective of the ESF+ is to enable a more social Europe. The projects are intended to help strengthen social rights, particularly in the areas of employment and social policy.

The ERDF is intended to level regional disparities within the EU by contributing to economic, social, and community cohesion.

For the 2021–2027 funding period, the project operator SAB plans to use the so-called SAB Funding Portal for projects financed by state and structural funds.
