Antimicrobial resistance – EP OH AMR launches first Call!
The first EUP OHAMR joint transnational call for projects will investigate new treatments to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The call "Treatments and adherence to treatment protocols" involves 37 funding organizations from 28 different countries with an estimated total budget of over 31 million euros. The call is co-funded by the European Union.
Aim of the call
Drug-resistant infections cause an increasing number of treatment failures, higher mortality and reduced productivity in food production. Inappropriate use, poor treatment adherence and overuse of antibiotics are among the main drivers of AMR and significantly impact the effectiveness of these important drugs.
Developing new treatment protocols or alternative treatment strategies against infectious diseases and improving, maintaining and strengthening the clinical efficacy of currently available antimicrobial agents is therefore crucial. It is equally important to identify barriers that prevent proper adherence to existing treatment protocols by end users.
The first EUP OHAMR Call aims to improve treatment success rates in patients/animals/plants affected by bacterial or fungal infections by providing new treatment options - while reducing the risk of resistance development in different One Health contexts.
Topics of the call
Topic 1
Identify and develop new combination therapies using existing or innovative antimicrobial agents or antimicrobials in combination with supportive treatments to prolong drug efficacy and combat resistance.
Theme 2
Development of tools and methods to improve adherence to treatment protocols.
Theme 3 (not funded)
Assess the impact of antimicrobials for veterinary and agricultural use on the risk of AMR transmission to humans and the environment to support policy measures to restrict certain antimicrobials for human use.
