Call for "Hop on facility" in Horizon Europe!
Looking for an additional partner to strengthen an already running Horizon Europe project?
Within the new funding line "Hop on facility" in the program part "Widening participation and strengthening the European Research Area" in Horizon Europe, partners from "widening states" can participate in already approved projects. This applies to projects from Pillar 2 of the thematic clusters or from Pillar 3 the EIC Pathfinder.
A "widening state" is a country whose performance in research and innovation (R&I) is below the EU average. These include (within Horizon Europe): Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia (as well as associated countries with comparable R&I capacities). With the "Hop on facility" call, the European Commission aims to increase the participation of these countries in specific thematic areas of the Horizon Europe Framework Program. Another goal is to facilitate access to EU networks for institutions from the above-mentioned countries and thus improve the R&I excellence and international visibility of these institutions.
How to do?
An already approved project (without a partner from a "widening state") applies for the inclusion of a partner from one of the mentioned target countries. The coordinator is responsible for the application. The agreement of the other consortium partners is required for this. A budget of between 200,000 and 500,000 euros is planned for the implementation of the additional activities. The budget increase is to be used exclusively for the new partner. The only exception would be funding for the additional coordination effort (up to 10% of the increased budget), which will be allocated to the coordinator. Applications must demonstrate the added R&I value of the new partner and include a clear work package for the joining partner. The additional partner and their tasks should be included in a different font or colour within the current description of action (DOA).
Deadlines to submit “Hop on facility” applications are April 20th and November 10th, 2022. More information can be found on the EU Funding & Tender Opportunities Portal:
