EU Commission provides 123 million euros for research of coronavirus mutants
The EU Commission is responding to the development of the coronavirus variants with a short-term call for proposals under the new Horizon Europe research and innovation program. For this purpose, it is providing 123 million euros from the Horizon Europe budget. The call includes four Research and Innovation Actions (RIAs) in the Health Cluster and the Infrastructures program of the EU Horizon Europe framework program.
Previous actions under Horizon 2020 to develop therapies and vaccines and to organize and conduct clinical trials against SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 will be complemented by these actions. The new call also supports the development of comprehensive COVID-19 cohorts and networks across European borders.
In the work program of the Health Cluster, the following actions have been published on the Funding & Tenders Portal of the EU Commission:
Cohorts united against COVID-19 variants of concern
Vaccines & therapeutic clinical trials to boost COVID-19 prevention and treatment
The following calls have been published in the Infrastructure Work Program:
FAIR and open data sharing in support to European preparedness for COVID-19 and other infectious diseases
Research infrastructure services for rapid research responses to COVID-19 and other infectious disease epidemics
