Horizon 2020: New calls for proposals of Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) and Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU)
BBI JU
The Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) has published the next call for proposals.
The deadline for submission of proposals is 6 September 2018.
The total budget for this call is 115 million Euro. In addition, 45 million Euro contributions from industry are expected. The 2018 call includes 21 topics in 4 strategic orientations: feedstock, processes, products, market uptake.
Please find more information in the Call for proposals as well as in the BBI JU Annual Workplan 2018.
About BBI JU:
The Public-Private Partnership "Bio-based Industries" was established in 2014 as a new Joint Technology Initiative in Horizon 2020.
The main focus of this Joint Technology Initiative (JTI) is on the transformation of non-edible parts of plants (e.g. wood, agricultural and forestry residues) and biodegradable wastes into a broad variety of bio-based products and biofuels. It is expected to contribute to economic growth and employment in Europe, especially in rural areas, while saving resources and reducing the impact on the environment. The concrete objectives of the proposed JTI on bio-based industries are to:
- demonstrate technologies that enable new chemical building blocks, new materials, and new consumer products from European biomass, which replace the need for fossil-based inputs;
- develop business models that integrate economic actors along the value chain from supply of biomass to biorefinery plants to consumers of bio-based materials, chemicals and fuels, including through creating new cross-sector interconnections and supporting cross-industry clusters; and
- set-up flagship biorefinery plants that deploy the technologies and business models for bio-based materials, chemicals and fuels and demonstrate cost and performance improvements to levels that are competitive with fossil-based alternatives.

FCH JU
On 16th January 2018 the Joint Technology Initiative on Fuel Cells and Hydrogen (Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, FCH JU 2) has published the call for proposals for 2018.
A total budget of € 73.2 million is available for the 20 call topics in the areas of transport, energy and crosscutting themes.
The deadline for submission of proposals is 24 April 2018.
Please find detailed information in the Call for proposals, the FCH 2 JU Workplan 2018 as well as the list of Topics.
About FCH JU:
The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) is a unique public private partnership supporting research, technological development and demonstration (RTD) activities in fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies in Europe. Its aim is to accelerate the market introduction of these technologies, realising their potential as an instrument in achieving a carbon-lean energy system.
Fuel cells, as an efficient conversion technology, and hydrogen, as a clean energy carrier, have a great potential to help fight carbon dioxide emissions, to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons and to contribute to economic growth. The objective of the FCH JU is to bring these benefits to Europeans through a concentrated effort from all sectors.
