Horizon Europe: Call for experts to join future Mission Boards
On 13 Mai 2019, the European Commission launched a call for experts to join future Mission Boards, which will advise the Commission on the new concept of Missions (i.e. ambitious, high profile and clearly focused initiatives aimed at delivering transformative solutions with regard to major societal challenges) in Horizon Europe, the next EU research and innovation programme.
There will be five Mission Boards (each consisting of up to 15 members) covering one of the following areas:
- Adaptation to climate change including societal Transformation
- Cancer
- Healthy oceans, seas, coastal and inland waters
- Climate-neutral and smart cities
- Soil health and Food
During an initial operational phase (18 months), these Mission Boards will contribute to the identification and design one or more specific missions for each of the above-mentioned areas, in consultation with stakeholders and citizens. Mission Boards shall meet for a minimum of 4 times per year (with each Board meeting typically lasting for ca. 1.5 days.)
Potential Mission Board members are individual, high level experts with a recognised background in one the following sectors (with relevance to the respective mission area):
- industry, innovation and business
- academia and research institutions (including where appropriate Social Sciences and Humanities experts)
- policy makers and practitioners, former public figures including politicians
- end-users
Please note that Mission Board members shall neither take part in evaluations relating to calls for the specific missions nor be directly included in proposals for calls for specific missions in the Horizon Europe work programme (although organisations which employ a given Mission Boards member shall be permitted to submit or be included in such calls for proposals).
The call for applications is available online in the Register of Commission expert groups with a deadline expiring on 11 June 2019. Experts are invited to submit their application with accompanying documents (cover letter, CV, declaration of interests, selection criteria form, etc.) to
