JPI Oceans: New call for proposals
Within the European Joint Programming Initiative "Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans" (JPI OCEANS), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), in cooperation with eleven other European countries and Brazil, has launched a new funding possibility on microplastics in marine systems. The BMBF thus supports German partners in participating in research on open questions on the subject of microplastics.
A total budget of 8.5 million euros is available.
The BMBF supports three of the four main topics:
- Identification, characterisation and quantification of the major microplastic sources, especially mechanisms and time scales of macroplastic fragmentation
- New sampling and analytical methodologies - focusing on the smaller (nano-)particles and in situ measurement methods for all matrices (water, sediment, biota)
- Monitoring and mapping of microplastics in the marine environment including its effects on the marine environment
The submission deadline is February 28, 2019.
