Guideline for the EFRE/JTF Technology Funding Line 2021-2027 has been published!
On January 5, 2023, the Guideline for the “EFRE/JTF Technology Funding Line 2021-2027” was published in the Saxon Gazette (German: Sächsisches Amtsblatt) as a continuation of the “EFRE Technology Funding Line 2014-2020” that was previously in place. A total of 503 million euros from the EFRE fund can therefore be used to finance research and development in small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) as well as their cooperation partners in the Free State of Saxony.
Pursuant to the new guidelines, the funding will be continued but in a slightly modified form. The previously independent funding of key technologies, or Key Enabling Technologies (KET), was integrated into the new guideline as an R&D pilot funding line.
This financing is intended to support the implementation of the Innovation Strategy and to strengthen the innovative power of Saxony's economy, thereby bolstering its competitiveness. In particular, cooperation between R&D companies, as well as with universities and research institutions, is to be expanded. More technological knowledge will also be passed on to small and medium-sized enterprises and these SMEs will cooperate more closely with universities and research institutions. R&D results are to be swiftly translated into successful innovations and the growth and number of companies conducting R&D in the Free State of Saxony are to be increased. In cooperation with research institutions, the R&D joint project funding and the R&D pilot joint funding line will achieve these goals.
The funding quota for research institutions is 90 percent. In order to secure this financial support, it must be a joint project between institution(s) and one or more companies, of which at least one is an SME.
Two steps are involved in the digital application process, the first of which being the submission of a project idea/project outline via the SAB funding portal, which is done via the EPC at TU Dresden. A joint consultation in advance with the EPC is highly recommended. Before submitting a joint application, companies should contact the funding authority, the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB), also in advance.
