FAIR Publication of Quantitative Empirical Social Research Data with GESIS - A Workshop (in German)
Registration see below
This workshop provides an opportunity to learn about the functionality of a reputable repository provided by the Leibnitz Institute for the Social Sciences. GESIS Data Services provides different plans to publish data from quantitative empirical social research and is certified with the CoreTrustSeal.
With open science becoming a standard practice in research, university and research libraries are increasingly tasked with providing services to support the FAIR publication of research data. Many German and European research grants require a mandatory strategy for publishing research data in their application forms. Alongside education on good research data management (RDM) practices, selecting a suitable repository is an important step in this process.
Descriptive metadata is crucial for the findability of research data, and continued access is ensured by using an appropriate repository. Reusability increases with comprehensive documentation and meaningful context information for any dataset. In addition to an introduction to core RDM principles and the reasons and benefits of publishing research data, there will be interactive elements to further awareness of the importance of metadata and good documentation practices.
Additional to the target audience of researchers, this workshop is also suitable as a train-the-trainer format. It might give open science educators another tool in their toolbox to offer RDM services to researchers. During a hands-on session, participants will input a provided dataset into the metadata fields, with the chance to ask questions and discuss their experiences. This highlights potential challenges during metadata input and equips fellow educators to anticipate user questions. An additional practical exercise involves searching for datasets using various search functions.
