Finding and Publishing Earth and Environmental Data: Navigating Repositories and FAIR Data (workshop in English)

Earth and environmental sciences are increasingly data-driven. With more than 100 scientific repositories available, it is often challenging to identify suitable input data for research projects and, in turn, to select appropriate repositories for publishing resulting datasets.

This session will introduce aspects of discovering and sharing Earth System Science data. Participants will (1) learn how to efficiently find high-quality datasets for data-driven research, including both scientific and governmental sources, and (2) receive guidance on selecting appropriate disciplinary repositories for data publication, with a focus on FAIR and Open Science principles.

Targeted at early-career PhD researchers and newcomers in Earth and environmental research (and related fields), the session will provide an overview of the current repository landscape and demonstrate practical tips, tools, and workflows using the NFDI4Earth service OneStop4All. The session aims to equip participants with practical skills to improve both data discovery and data sharing in their research workflows. More experienced participants are encouraged to share their own experiences and favorite repositories while catching up on recent developments in the repository landscape and FAIR data practices.
