The aim of the project is to connect the various stakeholders involved in teacher education at TU Dresden and its surroundings, and to coordinate their activities so as to achieve sustainable progress in the education of prospective teachers. Nine Chairs from seven Faculties and the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research are involved with the project, which focuses on developing institutional structures of teacher education at TU Dresden (including the Academic Affairs Office for Teachers Training and the Graduate Forum Teacher Education) and improving the quality of teaching as well as regional networking in educational matters. The subprojects “Liaison Office Teacher Education for strengthening rural areas” and “Places of learning outside of school in the learning landscape of Saxony” are dedicated to these topics in particular. The Liaison Office Teacher Education creates a sustainable network with regional education partners with the aim of making schools in the region an attractive place of work for newly qualified teachers, involving local schools in teacher education and opening up opportunities for on-site studies for those involved in education research. The subproject “Saxon learning landscape” investigates the conditions for successful interdisciplinary teaching outside of a school environment. It takes key regional issues into account, such as structural change, in order to foster a sense of regional identity among young people. It also uses an interactive map to increase the visibility of places of learning outside of school (such as museums, memorial sites, companies) and equips (future) teachers to integrate these places of learning into their teaching. With these activities, TUD-Sylber² introduces teacher training students to the diversity of Saxony's educational landscape and showcases regionally effective areas of improvement.
