13.01.2026: 60 minutes (Right-wing) populism: old problem, young voices
The success of populist parties is increasing - in Germany, Europe and beyond. What makes populist movements so successful? Which voters do they appeal to? Which explanatory approaches are underpinned by hard empirical evidence?
On 13.01.2026 from 18:15-19:15, Prof. Dr. Christian Leßmann (Chair of Economics, in particular International Economic Relations) will discuss these old questions with young researchers from the fields of political science and economics in a new edition of the 60 minutes online discussion. Jacob Edenhofer is a doctoral student in political science at the University of Oxford and conducts research in the field of political economy and climate policy. Julius Kölzer is also a doctoral student in political science (HU Berlin) and guest author for ZEIT. Luisa Dörr is a PostDoc at the ifo Institute and conducts research in the field of political economy and public finance.
