Climate injustice means that certain people and communities are disproportionately affected by the consequences of the climate crisis and have fewer means to shield themselves from its negative impacts. At the same time, these people are not responsible for the current global warming and have historically contributed the least to it. Additionally, those most affected often do not have sufficient representation in political decisions concerning climate policies.

Social issues are often set in opposition to ambitious climate protection, leading to artificial conflicts between the two. However, we believe that in order to effectively tackle the climate crisis and bring about meaningful change in society, we must not view climate protection solely as a technical endeavor; instead, we must account for its social dimensions. But what does this mean in practical terms?

This workshop delves into the complexity and multifaceted nature of climate injustice, addressing five essential dimensions: class, race, gender, ability, and age. We ponder, among other things, the role of gender in the climate crisis and its connection to injustice. Why are BIPoCs (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) often more affected by the repercussions of the climate crisis? And what influence does class have on our society when viewed from the perspective of the climate crisis? How are accessibility and climate justice intertwined? Furthermore, we analyse the relationship between age and climate-inclusive participation. All of this will also be considered within the context of intersectionality! The presented dimensions offer new perspectives on the subject of climate justice and underscore its relevance both for everyday life and broader societal transformation.

In the workshop, we navigate between in-depth group work, interactive impulses from the facilitators, inspiring plenary discussions, and creative problem-solving. We engage in alternative ways of thinking and envisioning what a climate-just coexistence could look like, both locally and globally. Join us to discuss, ask further questions, and collaboratively work on solutions!
