BMBF funds citizen science project „Ostdeutsche Migrationsgesellschaft selbst erzählen“ at the Centre for Integration Studies
Between 01.03.2021 and 29.02.2024, the BMBF is funding the new project „Ostdeutsche Migrationsgesellschaft selbst erzählen: Bürgerschaftliche Geschichtswerkstätten als Produktionsorte für Stadtgeschichten“ (MigOst) as part of a programme on citizen science projects.
MigOst focuses on the East German migration society, which is hardly represented in the German narrative. Researchers and migrant associations work with citizen scientists in history workshops in Cottbus, Dresden and Halle. The plural "(city) stories" developed here from biographical narratives are made accessible to the public and academia in various formats (documentary theatre piece, exhibition or city tour) and broaden the perspectives on local urban history(s).
The project, headed by Dr Karoline Oehme-Jüngling, is located at the Centre for Integration Studies at the TU Dresden and works together with the Dachverband Migrantenorganisationen in Ostdeutschland Halle (Saale) (Umbrella organisation of migrant organisations in East Germany), the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus, the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore Dresden and the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research Berlin.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the BMBF's "Citizen Research" funding area. It is one of 15 projects that will advance the cooperation of citizens and scientists in terms of content and methodology and provide answers to societal challenges until the end of 2024.
