“Provincializing European Cities”, Noa Ha at the annual ISA-RC 21 conference in Delhi (India) and Call for Chapters
The international conference of the “Research Committee 21 Urban and Regional Development” will take place in Delhi, India, from 18th to 21st September 2019. Together with the urban sociologist Dr Giovanni Picker, University of Glasgow, Noa Ha submitted a proposal for a session, which was accepted. The two scholars enrich the overarching topic of the conference “In and Beyond the City: Emerging Ontologies, Persistent Challenges and Hopeful Futures” with two panels during the session “Provincializing European Cities: Theoretical and Empirical Interventions”. Starting from Dipesh Chakrabarty’s important work “Provincializing Europe” (2000), in which he presents the limits of the European Enlightenment in the context of global transformations of existing power relations, the session aims at shifting away from western-centred urban theories.
The contributions at the conference will be published in the jointly edited volume “Provincializing European Cities” by Manchester University Press. The call for chapters closes on 10th September, for further information follow this link.
