Migration in the GDR is still not a self-evident topic in the public discourse on East German life realities. Dr Patrice Poutrus observes an image of the GDR that largely excludes experiences of migration society: "In the mass media, political education work and also in schools, an image of homogeneously white everyday society is drawn that has darn similarities with what the SED state produced about everyday social life in the GDR".
