E-Didact
E-Didact - Engineering didactics at Saxon universities
Short description:
A lack of quality in university teaching is seen as one of the main factors for the insufficient success rate in engineering degree programs at Saxon universities (only 49%, cf. Krempkow/Pastohr/Bolze et al. 2008: 42). A postgraduate continuing education program for the development of skills for the design of teaching and learning processes in academic higher education can counteract this deficit. This is all the more necessary in Saxony as the demographic development in the coming years is expected to result in a decline of around 40% in the number of first-year students (Statistisches Landesamt Sachsen 2008). The shortage of skilled workers at engineering level that can already be observed today is thus becoming an existential problem for the Saxon economy. The aim of the project was to develop, implement and test a postgraduate distance learning/continuing education program with integrated e-learning to develop skills for designing teaching and learning processes in academic higher education. The project comprised work phases of needs analysis, curriculum and media development, implementation and testing as well as documentation. The result of the project was a needs-based and successfully tested continuing education program of 20 CP, which was certified by the International Society for Engineering Education as a continuing education program for "International Engineering Educator" (IGIP).
