Course content
The Department of Health and Nursing prepares students for teaching at schools in the healthcare sector. In the current study structure, it leads to the 1st state examination for Teacher Training - Vocational Schools and thus enables entry into the preparatory service (traineeship).
The course serves to acquire subject-specific, educational science and vocational didactic skills. In addition to the predominantly theoretical study components, it also includes a practical teaching component (practical school studies) and thus forms the first phase of teacher training as a basis for later teaching in the healthcare professions. In addition, the course qualifies students for a career in the academic field or for a doctorate and for employment in various subject-related professional fields as well as for work in relevant institutions, organizations and associations.
The basic structure of the degree program consists of three pillars:
- the Department of Health and Nursing
- the (second) subject or another Department
- the educational sciences
From the 5th semester onwards, there is differentiation and profiling in the two specializations on offer. Students must choose one specialization. It is currently not possible to choose both specializations.
Health specialization:
This is aimed at entry into the preparatory service at state vocational schools (vocational schools, vocational school centers/upper level centers for health). This means that the subject-related parts of the course are primarily geared towards later teaching in the dual-regulated healthcare professions (e.g. medical and dental assistants, pharmaceutical and commercial clerks, dental technicians).
Specialization in nursing:
This is aimed at entry into the preparatory service at state vocational schools and independent vocational schools if these offer training courses in the nursing professions. This means that the subject-related parts of the course are primarily geared towards the central reference science of nursing science and towards teaching in the nursing professions (e.g. geriatric nursing, healthcare and paediatric nursing, nursing assistance, curative education nursing).
