General information
TU Dresden has a long tradition of teacher training for vocational schools. This training is differentiated in many ways. There are numerous Vocational Departments (BFR) at TU Dresden.
The two vocational departments of Metal and Mechanical Engineering (MMT) and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (ET/IT) were initially conceived as independent departments, each with its own didactics professorship. As the Chair in the BFR ET was never established and filled after 1990, it was assigned to the Chair of Didactics of the BFR MMT. With the assumption of the Chair of Vocational Didactics in the BFR MMT in the summer semester of 2007 by Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Martin D. Hartmann, both Departments were given equal weight.
In the conception of the two professional departments, networking opportunities are sought in order to achieve synergy effects. For example, the laboratory concept of an automated model factory (in cooperation with the in-house training workshop of the TU Dresden, which belongs to the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering) addresses both departments. Joint tasks are also considered for projects in connection with the vocational didactics courses.
