Study information on the IngPäd+ study option
IngPäd+ - Start of teacher training in the region
IngPäd+ (formerly OptLA) is particularly interesting for people with an industrial-technical education or professional experience who want to gain engineering and teaching qualifications close to home. Building on this, they can then aim to enter the "Teacher Training - Vocational Schools" degree program at TU Dresden and the civil service as a teacher at vocational schools. This study option also offers people with a Fachhochschulreife the opportunity to enter the teacher training course without a general higher education entrance qualification.
The IngPäd+ study option is divided into two stages:
- Step 1: Bachelor's degree program in Engineering Education at the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences or the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau, leading to a
Bachelor of Engineering
- Step 2: Entry into a higher semester of the "Teacher Training - Vocational Schools" degree program at TU Dresden with completion of the First State Examination for Teacher Training - Vocational Schools
Step 1 - Bachelor's degree program in Engineering Education
The Bachelor's degree course in Engineering Education can be completed at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences or at the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau. The course combines engineering technology with pedagogy. In addition to the technical studies with two departments, the degree program teaches pedagogical content with a strong practical focus. After graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering, graduates have the opportunity to continue their studies in the degree program "Teacher Training - Vocational Schools" at TU Dresden in order to qualify for the Saxon civil service as a teacher. A large proportion of the credits earned from the Bachelor's degree can be credited here.
The subject focus of the course is in the industrial-technical field. The following departments can be chosen as the first subject area:
- Metal and mechanical engineering
- Electrical engineering and information technology
Depending on the university, the following can be chosen as the second subject area or Department:
- Electrical engineering and information technology
- Automotive engineering
- Computer science
- Physics
- Metal and mechanical engineering
- Textile Technology and Clothing
Please refer to the websites of the degree programs for possible combinations. Further information on the Bachelor's degree program in Engineering Education can be found on our joint website www.ingenieurpaedagogik-sachsen.de/
Step 2 - State examination Teacher Training - Vocational Schools
After completing the Bachelor's degree in Engineering Education, graduates have the opportunity to enter directly into a higher semester of the "Teacher Training - Vocational Schools" degree program at TU Dresden. Thanks to TU Dresden's cooperation with the HAWs, the range of courses on offer is coordinated in such a way that a large part of the coursework is recognized if the departments or a department are combined with a subject and the course can be taken up at TU Dresden in the 6th or 7th semester. The teacher training course concludes with the First State Examination. This degree entitles students to enter the preparatory service at a state vocational school.
The following support services make it easier to start the teacher training program at TU Dresden:
- Welcome and information event at the start of studies
- Assistance with the recognition of previous academic achievements
- Support with the preparation of study plans
- Dedicated contact persons for all questions regarding your studies
Professional internship
Proof of a professional internship is required to register for the First State Examination if no vocational training has been successfully completed in one of the chosen departments. The internship has a duration of 12 months, whereby there are various crediting options according to LAPO I. Before starting the teacher training course, it should be checked whether the work placement can be completed in time.
Study funding
Unfortunately, the BAföG regulations do not currently provide any funding for this combination of studies. However, there are alternative ways of financing your studies ( part-time job, school).
Note: If places are available, it is possible to continue your studies in the SchulAQ study option at TU Dresden after completing your Bachelor of Engineering in order to qualify for the Saxon civil service as a teacher. A large proportion of the credits earned from the Bachelor's degree can be credited here.
This measure is financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
