Annual Conference 2024 of the German Applied Linguistics Association in Dresden
Are gendered job ads more successful in the search for new employees? Do you do better in digital exams if you can type faster? And what social impact do ChatGPT and co. have?
These and many other questions will be discussed by over 200 researchers from German-speaking countries and beyond from September 11-13, 2024 at TU Dresden, where the annual conference of the Gesellschaft für Angewandte Linguistik (GAL e.V.) 2024 will take place. The conference is being organized by Prof. Simon Meier-Vieracker from the Institute of German Studies and Media Cultures at TU Dresden.
15 sections will meet to discuss current and practice-relevant topics such as AI in translation studies, language acquisition in migration contexts and gender-sensitive language in the media. The program of the sections will be complemented by a keynote lecture by Prof. Dr. Theresa Heyd as well as a hands-on forum of the research focus “Digital Infrastructures in Applied Linguistics” with workshops and a project fair. In addition, renowned academic publishers will present their current programs.
After months of preparation, Prof. Meier-Vieracker is now looking forward to the event with great anticipation: "The annual conference always brings together the who's who of applied linguistics in German-speaking countries. I am delighted that the Chair of Applied Linguistics is hosting this year's conference and I am looking forward to three days full of practice-oriented research."
