Stefan Feddern received his doctorate in Classics (Latin) from the Kiel University in 2010 and habilitated there in 2016. What are your core research areas and research interests?
I have been interested in rhetoric, especially ancient school rhetoric (especially declamation), since my studies and doctorate. With my habilitation, I opened up a new main field, literary theory, especially fictionality. I also have an interest in mimesis (imitation) and a focus on reception and transformation (of ancient literature in the early modern period).
What was your most interesting or exciting research project?
It's difficult to say which one takes precedence, but my DFG project on the poetics of the early modern period was very interesting and exciting, in line with my own interests, covering many subjects and combined with stays abroad (in Milan and Paris).
What project are you currently working on?
Together with a colleague from Cologne, I am working on a book on mimesis (imitation), in which we are tracing the stages of this probably most important aesthetic concept in the West from antiquity to the modern era.
What should never be missing from your desk?
Laptop and smartphone, but also tidiness - and my concentration (in view of the many tasks).
Do you have a favorite quote? If so, which one and who is it from?
"You should think four-dimensionally, i.e. take the time factor into account" - I can't say where it comes from.
What was the last book you read?
I'm currently reading Kraszewski's so called Saxon novels.
