Vignettes in the accompanying research at the University School Dresden - Review of VignA Symposium South Africa
As part of the VignA Symposium South Africa, an international research meeting on vignette research in Pretoria (South Africa), researchers from various countries came together in October 2024 to discuss current findings and research projects. Hannah Bartels and Wiebke Bergjürgen represented the ForUS University School Research Unit at the conference on "Crafting Transnational Dialogical Spaces in the Global North and the Global South" and presented the possible uses of vignettes in the context of accompanying research at Dresden University School. The hybrid meeting of colleagues from Austria, South Africa, Italy, Germany and Great Britain enabled an intensive exchange with colleagues and provided valuable perspectives on the work with vignettes in their research at TU Dresden.
A vignette is a short, concise description of a situation based on observations from everyday school life. In the accompanying research of the University School Dresden, vignettes serve, among other things, to professionalize student teachers and are also used as an impulse for the creation of questionnaires or interviews (see also poster on the left).
The two researchers have already presented their work at the 2024 annual conferences of the German Society for Educational Science (DGfE ) in the Special Education section "Special Education - Intra- and Interdisciplinary!" and in the Working Group for Empirical Educational Research (AEPF) "Knowledge Transfer between Educational Research, Educational Practice and Teacher Training".
The network "Phenomenological Vignette and Anecdote Research" - in short "VignA" invited to the conference. It is an association of researchers at different institutions in several countries who work with phenomenologically oriented vignettes and/or anecdotes in research and/or teaching, based at University of Vienna, Austria.
About the Research Center University School ForUS
The ForUS research center at TU Dresden was founded in 2022 as a scientific institution to accompany the University School Dresden school trial. The Dresden University School trial, which is unique in Germany to date, offers an excellent educational science infrastructure and an ideal field for interdisciplinary cooperation.
More information on current and past conference participations of the Research Center University School ForUS can be found in the calendar on the TUD project website.
About the University School Dresden
Dresden University School is a joint project of the state capital Dresden and the TUD Dresden University of Technology. It is a public and free community school run by the city, where innovative forms of teaching and learning are tested under academic supervision. In addition, it is a training school for future teachers and, in the future, a further education school for teachers. The school trial is being scientifically supported by the ForUS research center at TU Dresden.
