The University School Dresden as a training school offers students enrolled in teacher training degrees the possibility to complete their work experience training at an innovative, self-reflective and self-critical school, with both special learning opportunities for students and innovative teaching formats at University. This includes:
- Inquiry-based learning – ‚In order to be able to learn by inquiry, you need to learn to enquire: Learning to research and learning by research constitute a whole.’ (Fichten 2017:32)
- Interdisciplinary teaching and learning in higher education
- Digitalisation and gaming as didactical elements in higher education
- Leading a learning workshop for pupils as an expert (enrollment as teacher student not required)
Read the article Eine Werkstatt fürs Leben ("A workshop for life") in the Dresden University Journal, issue 10/2020 from 26/05/2020 - Language learning support for Ukrainian students in cooperation with the Chair of German as a Second and Foreign Language

The topics for the 2026 summer semester are published. Please register by February 20th, 2026.
In summer 2019, the university school was opened for 200 children and has since grown. Soon around 1,000 pupils from the first year to graduation will attend the public community school. Since August 2025, around 850 pupils in grades 1 to 10 have been learning at the university school in a cross-grade, interdisciplinary, inclusive, all-day, multilingual, self-determined, cooperative and digitally supported way. The first Abitur examination will be held in the 2027/28 school year.
However, the university school is also a place of educational research. The Chair of Education / Inclusive Education regularly offers the seminar "Research at the University School" and other seminars in cooperation with the University School for student teachers from all departments.
