Project-Based Learning, Self-Regulation, and a Profile of the Dresden University School—Read Now in PÄDAGOGIK

The Dresden University School project has already been featured three times in the "Zeitschrift für Pädagogik". One year after publication, the University School Research Unit (ForUS), with the consent of the Beltz Publishing Group, is able to make the articles available online so they can be read outside the university library.

For the special issue “Lernen in Projekten" (Learning Through Projects, 2025), Prof. Anke Langner, head of the accompanying research at TU Dresden, and Pia Heyne, a member of the extended school leadership team and learning facilitator in the youth and qualification levels, contributed the article “Schüler:innen in der Projektarbeit begleiten” (Supporting Students in Project Work). At the University School, instruction is fundamentally project-based. In this context, students must, as much as possible, take charge of and advance their own learning through interaction with their peers. The authors address the questions: How can students learn to do this? And what role do teachers play in this process?

In the article “Selbstregulation in der agilen Schule” (Self-Regulation in the Agile School, 2024), the directors of the Dresden University School, Prof. Anke Langner and Maxi Heß, described how innovative learning arrangements can be combined with digital tools. A profile of the Dresden University School was published as early as 2022 in the “Exceptional Schools” series.

According to Beltz Verlag, the "Zeitschrift für Pädagogik" is the leading journal on school pedagogy in Germany. In its in-depth thematic sections, PÄDAGOGIK consistently offers practical information and materials for designing lessons and organizing schools.

About the Dresden University School

Dresden University School is a joint project of the state capital of Dresden and the TUD Dresden University of Technology. It is a public and free community school run by the city, where innovative forms of teaching and learning are tested under academic supervision. In addition, it is a training school for future teachers and, in the future, a further education school for teachers. The ForUS - University School Research Unit at TU Dresden is providing scientific support for the school trial.
