Research Center for Comparative History of Religious Orders" (FOVOG)
Monasteries and religious orders have been pioneers of social change for centuries. Nuns and monks, hermits, canons and many other representatives of spiritual forms of life formed a social elite as religionists who were able to have a lasting influence on life in Europe and far beyond. They drew strength to shape the world from their desire to reach the afterlife.
The "Research Center for Comparative History of Religious Orders" (FOVOG) is dedicated to this phenomenon in a broad and comprehensive manner. As a center of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, it provides the organizational framework for projects that focus on monasteries, religious orders and spiritual forms of life in general (Vita religiosa). Its specific and globally unique approach is a comparative one, which not only contributes significantly to the success of the individual projects, but also enables the various research objectives to be brought together synergistically.
