Wrocław and Dresden have been twin cities since 1956. A first university agreement was established in 1997, and since 2014, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences has been developing a strategic partnership with the University of Wrocław.

- third largest university in Poland (focal areas: humanities and natural sciences) with around 32,000 students; ten faculties, four of which in humanities and social sciences (Faculty of Philology, Faculty of History and Pedagogy, Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences)
- 2002 establishment of the 'Willy Brandt Center for German and European Studies', which is jointly funded by the University of Wrocław and the DAAD
