Research projects
Several research projects are currently underway at the Chair of Medieval History.
In cooperation with the Forschungsstelle für Vergleichende Ordensgeschichte (Research Center for Comparative History of Religious Orders, short: FOVOG) in Dresden and the European Institute for Cistercian Research (EUCist) at the Benedict XVI School of Philosophy and Theology in Heiligenkreuz (near Vienna), a Dictionary of Cistercian Saints is currently being created - a handbook-like directory of all persons venerated as saints in the Cistercian communities.
Dr. Reinhardt Butz is working on a comparative study of monasteries of different orders and congregations between the Elbe, Saale and Oder rivers, as well as on the development of princely courts in the High Middle Ages in Thuringia, Brandenburg and Saxony.
In addition, the Chair of Medieval History is part of the annual doctoral student network "Mitteldeutsches Doktorandentreffen", which has taken place since 2012 and is organized by the medieval chairs of the universities of Dresden, Erfurt, Chemnitz, Halle, Jena, Leipzig and Magdeburg.
