(Post-)Imperial Change in Central and Eastern Europe

In the research area of (post-)imperial change in Central and Eastern Europe, we investigate how people understood and participated in shaping the upheavals in and after the two world wars, how they coped with new structures of power, and how they tried to escape or oppose them.

The research area includes the following projects:

• "Aufbruch zu Demokratie und Nationalstaatlichkeit in Mittel- und Osteuropa? Aktuelle Forschungen mit Fokus auf die lokale Ebene (1917-1923)" - internationale Tagung in Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem am Hannah-Arendt-Institut für Totalitarismusforschung angelagerten, interdisziplinären Forschungsprojekt „Aufbruch zu Demokratie und Nationalstaatlichkeit im Dreiländereck. Deutschland – Polen – Tschechoslowakei nach dem ‚Großen Krieg‘ (1918-1923)“, der BKM-Juniorprofessor für „Soziale und ökonomische Netzwerke der Deutschen im östlichen Europa im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert“ und dem Prager Masaryk-Institut – Archiv der AV ČR, 3.-4.12.2018.

• "The West Russian Volunteer Army. A Case Study on the Scopes of Action of the European Counter-Revolution after WWI" - PhD project of Thomas Rettig.
