Learning material
Since the summer semester 2009, the Chair of Social and Economic History has been using the E-learning platform OPAL to support its courses.
Information about using OPAL
OPAL is used during studies to manage and organise courses. The most important functions include:
· Providing teaching material and fundamental material for projects
· Submission, archiving, and backup of digital data online
Structure within OPAL

The Institute's training material can be accessed via the catalogue:

LOGIN and registration
Important: Note at first login
User name / Password: ZIH-Account (Email login - e.g. s7398235)
Please enter your personal email address and keep it up to date during your studies!
- After successful login, please click on the upper tab Learning resources and then on the button Catalogue in the left vertical menu
- Now select Technische Universität Dresden from the list of Saxon universities and then Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science
- Within the Institute overview of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, select the Institute of History
- You will then see an overview of learning resources - select the relevant course and click on the Enrolment button in the left vertical menu
- Now select the appropriate learning group from the list and then click on Register
- These learning groups are used to send important messages to enrolled students during their studies
- On the home page, you will find My Messages, My Performance results, and My Notes for easier working
Forwarding emails
- In order to forward emails from your ZIH mailbox to one of your personal email addresses, please note the following:
First log in to your ZIH web account, in the left menu open Webmail, then click on Filter, in the right window under point 4 you will then find Forward emails, where you enter your alternative e-mail address

In order to be able to quickly and easily access courses in which you are registered, it is advisable to bookmark these courses. You can find out how to do this here (in German).
