The Institute's slide library (partner of the Deutsche Fotothek, the image archive "prometheus" and the German Digital Library)
The slide library, the central image library of the Institute of Art and Music, houses around 250,000 slides from all eras and different genres of art history. You can also access the digital slide library and other external image archives.
The approx. 250,000 slides, which have been set up as a reference collection, can be compiled and borrowed for presentation purposes during the specified opening hours of the slide library. The gradual digitization of the slide material began in April 2004. At the same time, images for the general expansion of the collection, for presentations and lectures are now only produced in digital form.
If you cannot find what you are looking for in the digital image archives or if you require specific details, we will be happy to produce digital images for you from corresponding originals, which you should bring to the slide library at least two to three days before the presentation date. On request, we can also scan slides whose originals you were unable to find. Depending on the size of the photo order, we will send the images by e-mail or you can collect the digitized images from the slide library on a storage medium you have brought with you.
Our digitized image collections can be accessed via the Digital Slide Library, the "prometheus" image archive and in some cases via the Deutsche Fotothek and the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek.
If you are enrolled in the BA or MA degree program in Art History, you will receive free access to the "prometheus" image archive. Please contact the head of the slide library/media library by e-mail.
