"Brushstrokes & Revolutions: A Lecture Series on Modern and Contemporary Egyptian Art" launching on 28 April 2025
It is with great pleasure that we announce the inaugural lecture of the series "Brushstrokes & Revolutions: A Lecture Series on Modern and Contemporary Egyptian Art", which will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Emad Abou-Ghazi, a distinguished historian, archivist, and professor at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University.
In this opening talk titled "Art and Revolution: Mukhtar and the 1919 Revolution as an Example", Prof. Abou-Ghazi will explore the dynamic relationship between art and revolution, using the work of the pioneering sculptor Mahmoud Mukhtar and the context of Egypt’s 1919 Revolution as a case study. This lecture promises to provide invaluable insights into how national identity, political upheaval, and artistic expression converged at a pivotal historical moment.
Prof. Abou-Ghazi is renowned for his interdisciplinary expertise and decades-long contributions to the fields of cultural heritage, archival science, modern history, and art history. His scholarship, rooted in both rigorous academic inquiry and active civic engagement, exemplifies the very spirit of this lecture series.
