Film screening and discussion: "Green Border" by Agnieszka Holland
Thursday, July 25, 2024, 6 pm, Zentralkino Dresden, Kraftwerk Mitte 16, 01067 Dresden
Film screening followed by a discussion with art historian and political activist Tomasz (Tomeka) Kitliński, hosted by Verena Straub.
"Green Border" is a devastatingly intense drama by Polish director Agnieszka Holland. It follows the fate of a Syrian family, an English teacher from Afghanistan and a young border guard, who all meet at the Polish-Belarusian border. In an endless loop, local border guards push the migrants back to the external border.
"Green Border" vehemently denounces the behaviour of the border guards and the governments responsible and sparked a political scandal due to its resolute criticism. The events to which the film refers to are the terrifying reality for many migrants at Europe's borders.
