The application for the Master "International Studies in Intellectual Property Law and Data Law" represents the initial aptitude assessment procedure, which is followed by enrollment at the TU Dresden in case of admission to the program.

PLEASE NOTE: Application deadline for studies at the University of Washington (Seattle) and Keio University (Tokyo) is always 15th January (Non-EU-students: 15th November) no matter if you want to start your studies in April or September.

When deciding on your eligibility for the Master's program, we consider in particular your motivation in relation to intellectual property law, which should be evident from the Letter of Motivation, your academic and professional career.

Complete application documents :

• Curriculum Vitae in English (in tabular form) with photo, presentation of professional experience (preferably CV Europass)
• Written explanation of your special motivation for choosing the course of study, explaining which specific talents and interests make you particularly suitable for the course of study (Letter of Motivation, maximum 100 lines) in English
• Certificates providing evidence of language skills
• university diploma including an overview of subjects and grades (transcript of records) and translations
• Applicants who have a non-law degree: Proof of sufficient knowledge of law
• evidence of other qualifications, certificates
• If available: Rank number and/or GPA
• school leaving certificate including an overview of subjects and grades
• European and international students: copy passport
• Applicants from China, India and Vietnam: APS Certificate

Notes on official certification

In random individual cases, the International Office requests officially certified copies of diplomas and certificates. In this case have your documents certified by an authorised agency with a stamp in English or German. If you want to have your documents certified by the issuing university, the certification must include the university's seal and a signature by the student administration office, the dean, or the office responsible for examinations.

What we look for in the application

Form:

Is the application complete? Are all documents, especially language certificates and motivation letter submitted?

Letter of motivation:

What is your special motivation to apply for this LL.M. program in IP and Data law at TU Dresden? What are your specific talents and interests that make you particularly suitable for this program?

Expertise:

Is there prior knowledge of law and/ or IP knowledge? Is there perhaps even particularly strong expertise in IP law?

IP Knowledge:

Is there a particular interest in IP law apparent or is the interest more in general legal issues?

Final grades:

Particularly good grades can have a positive impact on the evaluation of the application.

Applicant selection

During the aptitude assessment for the Master's program, we will particularly take into account your motivation in relation to intellectual property law, which should be evident from the Letter of Motivation, your academic and professional career. Your application will be reviewed by a selection committee. The assessment is based on a case-by-case examination of your documents, taking into account the following five criteria, which are assessed with points (P) in total.

 Applicants who achieve a score of 8-12 points are considered eligible for the LL.M. program in our program without an interview. If a score of 6 or 7 is achieved, we digitally interview our applicants for eligibility. Applicants who achieve less than 6 points have not demonstrated the special suitability with the presented documents and therefore cannot participate in the study program.
