German-French workshop
In July 2023, our Chair hosted the three-day workshop "Happy families? Staging family relationships in French and German films" with French and German social scientists and our Master's sociology students.
The workshop participants discussed the transformations of family orders and the resulting social challenges, taking into account the complex interdependencies of the core dimensions of gender, sexual identity, age and health.
As the variety of French and German films that portray or address relationships between family members is enormous, thematic focuses were set within the research field that correspond to the expertise of the participants and/or show particular potential for further collaboration. These include, for example, paternity, same-sex parenthood or family secrets. In addition, when selecting the films, attention was paid to the year of release in the 21st century and that the interpretations offered on family and gender relations were received or commented on in the public sphere.
The joint collaboration will subsequently be deepened by the production of an anthology, which will be published by Leipziger Universitätsverlag in 2024.
