BIO
Anna Holzscheiter holds the Chair of Political Science, specialising in International Politics, at TU Dresden. She completed her PhD in 2006 at the Free University of Berlin (summa cum laude). Before accepting her appointment at TU Dresden, she worked as a junior lecturer in International Relations (2015–2019) and as a research assistant (2006–2014) at the Centre for Transnational Relations, Foreign and Security Policy at the Free University of Berlin. In the past, she also served as a John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellow at Harvard University (2014–2015) and as a research fellow at the Department of Public Health Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (2007–2010). From 2015 to 2021, Anna Holzscheiter headed the ‘Governance for Global Health’ research group at the Berlin Social Science Centre (WZB). From 2021 to 2023, she was a Research Fellow in the Global Governance Division at the WZB. For the academic year 2024/25, she was a Visiting Professor in the Department of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
In her research and teaching, Anna Holzscheiter focuses on the emergence, impact and transformation of international organisations, as well as the multifaceted relationships between (inter)governmental and civil society actors in international politics. She pays particular attention to the often turbulent histories of international norms – analysing the processes of norm-creation and norm-contestation through the lens of linguistic, discursive and network-analytical approaches in international relations. In her courses, Anna Holzscheiter imparts in-depth knowledge of the theories, methods and empirical research fields of international relations. Her main areas of empirical research include human rights (in particular the rights and political representation of young people) and global health. For Master’s students, she offers courses on international institutions, interdisciplinary debates (particularly with law and sociology), theories of international and global order, and global governance.
