05.11.2024: Election Night on Occasion of the US Presidential Election at TU Dresden
On November 5, 2024, the Chair of International Politics and the Chair of Political Systems and Comparative Politics are organizing an Election Night on the occasion of the US presidential election. This academic symposium will take place in the Zeuner Building on the TU Dresden campus (George-Bähr-Straße 3c).
The event is supported by TUD im Dialog and the Internationalization Fund, the International Relations Association and the FSR Phil.
The Election Night will bring together academic experts and voices from politics, society and business from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm. In addition to exciting lectures and interdisciplinary workshops, the program includes a panel discussion and live broadcasts to the USA. The event will conclude with a live watching of the first projections.
Program highlights:
- 5:30 p.m.: Welcome by Stefanie Gerstenberger and Erik Vollmann (organizers), Prof. Dr. Anna Holzscheiter (International Politics, ZIS), Prof. Dr. Christian Prunitsch (GSW Division Spokesperson), Prof. Dr. Roswitha Böhm (Vice-Rector University Culture) and Dave Panetti (Consul for Public Affairs, U.S. General Consulate Leipzig).
- 18:00: Lecture on the importance of transatlantic relations for the Free State of Saxony, Conrad Clemens (Minister of State for Federal Affairs and Media, Head of the State Chancellery).
- 6:30 p.m.: Interdisciplinary lectures by Prof. Dr. Sven Engesser (Communication Studies), Dr. Manès Weisskircher (Political Science) and Prof. Dr. Christian Leßmann (Business Administration and Economics).
- 20:00: Interdisciplinary workshops on the topics of culture and media, democracy and economics.
- 21:30: Panel discussion with Robert Beuthner (IHK Dresden), Laura Stellbrink (MdL, SPD), Prof. Dr. Elvira Rosert and Dr. Jochen Kleinschmidt (TUD)
- From 23:00: Live broadcast of the election results with commentary and live links to the USA (including Prof. Dr. Marianne Kneuer, Chair of Political Systems and Comparative Politics).

A special focus of the event will be on the impact of the US election on Saxony's Central European neighborhood as well as East German perspectives. The Election Night thus offers a unique opportunity for networking and exchange between academia and the public.
