Contribution to the International Law/Völkerrechtsblog on the marginal role of young people in international law
On April 18, 2020, a contribution to the International Law Blog appeared with the title "Irrational, unprofessional, radical? Towards a differentiated perspective on age in international law and politics scholarship" by Prof. Dr. Anna Holzscheiter and Raffaele Kunz on the marginal role of young people in international law. Although young people have been of great relevance in the movements against climate change or during the Arab Spring and even earlier, they have played almost no role in scientific analyses. This article is intended to draw attention to this "blind spot" and to encourage more research on the role of age in international politics and international law.
Prof. Dr. Anna Holzscheiter has published many articles and books on the role of children and children's rights and was a keynote speaker at a conference on "Youth in International Law?" in Berlin on January 10-11, 2020 with the topic "Irrational, unprofesional, radical? - Participation and exclusion of young people in international politics". Dr. Raffaela Kunz from the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law had also given a keynote speech. The conference was organized by students and doctoral candidates of the Department of Law at Freie Universität Berlin.
