Research profiles and activities of the institute are broadly diversified and comprise, for example, foci in the areas of gender research (Gender Studies, Masculinity Studies, Transgender and Intersex Studies), research of popcultural representations of history, representations of the American and Canadian West, post-postmodern narration in old and new media as well as research in foreign language acquisition. Conferences and research colloquia are held regularly and are open to students.

The Institute of English and American Studies is part of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at TU Dresden. Many of our research projects are thus characterized by interdisciplinary exchange.

Most recent activities of the Institute include the cooperation with the research initiative WeiterSehen, its commitment to the GenderConceptGroup, the conference 20^th- and 21st-Century Narratives of Masculinity held at ZiF Bielefeld as well as the linguistic project Pragmaversals.
