Application for English Studies and Entry Test in Winter Semester 2023-2024
General information
All students who have not done their first degree in English at the TU Dresden and who wish to study English for the Konsekutiver Masterstudiengang Sprach-, Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften in dem Teilfach Anglistik und Amerikanistik must pass our Master Entry Test (Eignungsfeststellungsprüfung). No other test results (e.g. Cambridge, TOEFL, IELTS) are accepted. For details see the Eignungsfeststellungordnung:
Students who pass our Master Entry Test receive a letter of confirmation - this must be handed in with your university application papers to the Matriculation Office. If you want to be considered for entryin the upcoming winter semester, you must reserve an Entry Test place before 15th July 2022. This can be extended to 15th September in extenuating circumstances (e.g. serious illness or residence abroad) – otherwise, applications after 15th July 2023 will not be accepted.
N.B. Graduates from the TU Dresden are exempted from this entry test.
Entry Test organisation and reservations
The written test takes 1 hour and the interview takes approximately 15 minutes. However, candidates might have to wait for their interview time. The tests take place in the English Department at Büro- und Lehrgebäude Wiener Str. 48, 01219 Dresden. Please come to room 3.02 on the 3rd floor. The following dates and times (subject to change) have been organised and applicants will be offered an interview time during the afternoon:

Please reserve an Entry Test place as soon as possible by e-mail, stating your preferred date (the exact time will be sent to you. Please send your preferred date to: masterentrytest@mailbox.tu-dresden.de
Applicants will normally receive confirmation of their reservation with the exact times and dates of their Master Entry Tests within 8 days. If you have not heard after 14 days, please contact us again.
N.B.
1. The Entry Test may only be taken once per year.
2. Please do not call the Matriculation Office (Immatrikulationsamt), the International Office (Auslandsamt) or the Advisory Service (Studienberatung) about this test – they cannot help you with this.

What is the expected standard?
The level of our entry test is oriented towards level C2 of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages”. For more information, see http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/linguistic/source/framework_en.pdf
What does the Entry Test consist of?
All students take two parts:
1. A short essay (handwritten) in English (60 minutes). Candidates choose one topic from a selection of 6 topics related to the studies of English (literature, linguistics, British cultural studies, North American cultural studies, teaching methodology, language practice).
2. An interview (approximately 15 minutes). Here students will be asked to discuss topics such as their B.A. studies, any residence abroad and their future plans.They will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
Result of the test
The result of the test will be sent by post within one week. Those who pass the test will also receive a letter confirming that they have passed (Nachweis der bestandenen Eignungsfeststellungsprüfung) – this should be passed on to the Immatrikulationsamt by the candidates as soon as possible. The pass result is valid for the coming and the following academic years (2019-2020 and 2020-2021).
