Language training for students in mechanical engineering
Who is the offer aimed at?
The language training is designed for students in mechanical engineering who wish to express themselves more clearly and more confidently in German. However, students of other engineering disciplines are also welcome to participate.
What do we do during language training?
- We practise basic using math and physics terms in German as well as talking about equations, circuits, graphs and a typical experimental setups. An important topic is discussing measurement and errors in German.
- We consolidate the skills using examples and tasks from the internships throughout the course.
- The focus is on speaking in small groups or in pairs.
- Through group and pair work, we develope language skills that are important for studying in general: These include presenting results, describing the procedure for solving a task, and solving tasks in a team by asking questions, asking for help, making a suggestion for a solution.
- Lecture videos are also used to train listening comprehension.
- Students can bring their own questions and examples to each lesson.

Language training and tutoring accompanying the lecture "Measurement and Automation Technology 2" (MAT2)
- Dates:
- Group 1: Monday, 16:40 - 18:10 [6. DS]
- Group 2: Tuesday, 14:50 - 16:20 [5. DS]
- Group3: Thursday, 7:30 - 9:00 [1. DS]
- The language training takes place every week, except during the Whitsun break
- Place: Zeunerbau, Room 314
- Enrollment:
- in OPAL / Mess- und Automatisierungstechnik 2 - SoSem26
- You can register for Group 1 or Group 2 or Group 3
- starting from April 14 2026
- Focus: speaking confidently in German about measurement and tasks in the internship
- Certificate: You will receive a certificate from the Language Centre at TU Dresden for regular attendance and active participation in the course.
This offer builds on the language training from the 2025/26 winter semester / the intensive course. Even if you didn’t attend the language training in the winter, you can still sign up! We’ll go over the basics again if needed.
