Who is this program for?

The language training program is designed for engineering students who want to express themselves better and with greater confidence in German within their field of study. However, it is also open to students in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

What do we do in language training?

We revise key concepts from mathematics and physics in German. We practise putting equations and diagrams into words and explaining the laws of physics. An important part of this is describing a typical experimental setup.
Depending on the subject focus, we discuss measurement, practise basic concepts in electrical engineering or energy engineering, or practise describing the properties and behaviour of materials.

The focus is on speaking, either in small groups or in pairs.
Through group and pair work, we develop language skills that are generally important for your studies: presenting results, describing the process for solving a problem, and solving problems as a team—asking questions, asking for help, and suggesting a solution.
Listening comprehension is also practiced using lecture videos.
You are welcome to bring your own questions and examples to each session.

Current Offerings

✴️ FIT:ING – Language Skills for Engineering Studies [Intensive]

Dates: October 5–9, daily from 9.20 a.m. to 12.40 a.m., Location: Seminar Building 1, Room 217
Registration: via OPAL / Sprachenzentrum from August 3 or via e-mail
Focus: Describing diagrams, functions, and graphs in German; discussing equations, units, and quantities, as well as the properties of materials; key topics include the linguistic handling of basic electrical concepts and circuit elements, as well as measuring and describing measurement experiments
Certificate: For regular attendance and active participation in the course, you will receive a certificate from the Language Center at TU Dresden.

Join us every Wednesday in September for the MINT Language Workshop, where you can discuss technical topics in German in an informal setting. The tutor will prepare the following topics and activities for discussion and help you with the language:
