Habilitation
The habilitation provides evidence of a special aptitude for independent research and teaching in a particular subject or field (professional teaching qualification).
The Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies at the TU Dresden awards the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy with Habilitation (Dr. phil. Habil.)on the basis of a habilitation thesis, a scientific lecture followed by a debate (colloquium) and a demonstration lecture. In exceptional cases, instead of one thesis, several academic papers that are equivalent to one habilitation thesis may be presented (cumulative habilitation).
To start the process for a habilitation, contact the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies.
You can find out more about the habilitation procedure in the faculty’s currently valid Habilitation Regulations of 31st January 2020. (English version of the Degree Requirements and Regulations for the Habilitation Degree, Faculty Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, enacted on January 30, 2011)
