The Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies

Serving a diverse community with a current total of 2,500 enrollments, the Faculty offers excellent research and study opportunities at five institutes:

Institute of English and American Studies
Institute of German Studies
Institute of Classical Philology
Institute of Romance Studies
Institute of Slavic Studies
Lehrzentrum Sprachen und Kulturen

The Faculty, together with four other faculties, forms the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; there is particularly close cooperation with the Faculty of Philosophy. Subject-based and teaching-oriented courses of study and programs with numerous combination options make the academic training at the Faculty attractive not only via its close connection with ongoing research projects, but also via its strong focus on internationalization. Strategic international partners of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences are a.o. the universities of Trento and Wrocław. The subjects represented at our departments offer basic programs of study on the Bachelor’s and Master’s level as well as in the framework of the state exam programs; interdisciplinary networking is a particular trademark of the Master’s Program in European Languages (EuroS). With its long-standing heritage, the TU Dresden’s theater “die buehne” also contributes to the rich profile of the Faculty. The Faculty pursues an active policy of affirmative action, which not only has its reflex in an above-average number of female professors, but also in its gender studies research and teaching.

The Faculty building at Wiener Straße 48 features seminar rooms furnished with the latest equipment. Together with the excellent spectrum of services and utilities of our “Laboratory” – the Saxon State Library – State and University Library on Zelleschen Weg 18 – in the vicinity of all further institutions participating in DRESDEN concept, the Faculty offers superb research and teaching opportunities and conditions.
