Book presentation Ralph Ludwig "L'Errance et le rire. Un nouveau souffle de la littérature antillaise"
Table of contents
For more than thirty years, French-Caribbean authors of a "nouvelle littérature antillaise", from Édouard Glissant to Maryse Condé, from Raphaël Confiant to Gisèle Pineau, have been creating stories, novels, essays and concepts that show us one thing above all: the diversely networked Caribbean island world, characterized by cultural mixtures, is a microcosm in which current global cultural and social dynamics are condensed and have always been observable.
Romance philologist Ralph Ludwig (Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg) has been researching this laboratory of contemporary cultures since its beginnings and is making it accessible to a broad European audience.
With "L'Errance et le Rire" (2022), he has published an anthology of new Antillean literature with the renowned Parisian publisher Gallimard. It can be seen as a continuation of his anthology "Écrire la parole de nuit" (1994), which was celebrated as a classic.
The editor presented this literary event on May 4, 2022, 6:30 pm at TU Dresden (Faculty SLK, Wiener Straße 48, Room 0.04).
Thanks to Ralph Ludwig, we were able to gain an insight into how the concepts of "errance" and "rire" still characterize the Creole world of the Antilles today and how this is reflected in literature during his exciting lecture.
