Students from TU Dresden and the University of Leipzig with an interest in French cinema have formed a jury to select a film from a series of French and Francophone films (original version with subtitles) from the Institute français’s film fund (IF Cinéma).
The films had never before been shown in German theaters. The selected surprise film was screened on May 13, 2025, at the Programmkino Ost as part of the 26th Dresden French Film Festival, with an introduction by the students.
Summary
Chien de la casse was the film that the TUD student jury had chosen as the best from a selection of films that had not yet been shown in German theaters.
Following the screening, the Dresden audience expressed in the discussion how deeply moved they were by this 2022 comédie dramatique by Jean-Baptiste Durand.
Topics of the extremely lively and wide-ranging discussion included the (perhaps toxic) relationship between the two protagonists, the divide between city and countryside, and the role of women in this “men’s film.”
