International panel discussion "Remembering colonial history: regional, European, global"
Table of contents
The background was the exhibition "MENSCHENanSCHAUEN. From Looks to Deeds" (05.11.23 - 07.07.24) at the Stadtmuseum Dresden.
Academics and museum experts from Germany, France and Bénin discussed the topicality of colonial history with a view to public remembrance.
What role does colonial history play in contemporary cultures of remembrance, and what role should it play? To what extent is remembering this history relevant for us today?
Which aspects of history are of particular interest? What forms of exhibiting and showing are appropriate? What are the tasks of historiography and public institutions in this context? In answering these questions, the panel will combine regional and local perspectives with European and non-European ones.
