About the Center
Founded in late 2017, the Center France | Francophonie (CFF) has a broad interdisciplinary focus and includes members from numerous faculties—not only those in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences but also from the faculties of medicine and Mechanical Science and Engineering.
The CFF sees itself as a hub for German-Francophone academic and cultural exchange, a point of contact for international collaborations, and a facilitator of expertise regarding Francophone cultural regions.
The CFF collaborates with the DRESDEN-concept partners, supports the Research Priority Area “Culture and Societal Change,” and contributes to raising the profile of TU Dresden’s international relations.

In “Palacinche,” Caterina Sansone and comic artist Alessandro Tota set out in search of family history(ies): They follow the trail of Sansone’s family, who left what is now Rijeka, Croatia, after World War II to go into exile in Italy. In his graphic novel, Tota paints a unique portrait of flight and the question of “home” by artfully combining narratives, drawings, and photographs.

"Yes, Europe remains the greatest peaceful and democratic adventure in history. Yes, the European Union has succeeded in bringing together 450 million people, spread across 27 countries, speaking 24 languages, and divided by countless disputes. For sixty years, the dialogue has been uninterrupted and tumultuous. Yes, it is possible to overcome Europeans’ skepticism, to mobilize the people, and to pursue this uniquely original utopia. Europe is not behind the times, but ahead of them. No, a lack of communication is not Europe’s weakness. On the contrary, it is its originality and its strength. It is the driving force behind a different conception of political communication. It is the prerequisite for democracy and peace. Europe is built on the triumph of misunderstanding, of political doublespeak, of dialogues of the deaf. What an improbable project! Europe’s uniqueness? Learning to coexist without denying the other and redefining the relationship between identity and universality. Dramatized Reading of Albertine Sarrazin
“Freedom is truly the worst of all vices”

Albertine Sarrazin & Camilla Renschke
In her autobiographical writings, Albertine Sarrazin processed her own experiences in prison. Sarrazin spent much of her youth in detention centers, escaped repeatedly, and eventually—thanks in part to the support of Simone de Beauvoir—made her breakthrough as a writer. Sarrazin’s turbulent life and her authentic accounts made her a literary sensation in 1960s France before she died in 1967 at the age of just 29.

Panel Discussions / Workshop “Utopia Europe – Digital Utopia”
Student Panel Discussions
What impact does the digital transformation have on society and the environment? How can the global developments accompanying digitalization be contextualized within a European framework? What digital utopias can be envisioned, and which risks need to be critically examined and discussed?
Students from TUD discussed these and other questions with guests in three “Ateliers débat” as part of the debate competition “Utopia Europe – Digital Utopia,” organized by the Office for University Cooperation of the Institute Français Germany and the German-French University, in cooperation with the European Parliament’s Liaison Office in Germany and the European Commission’s Representation.
