Lecture by Dr. Matthias Kern: Nature Worship and Dehumanization: Romantic Poetry as Biopoetics?
Poster on the occasion of the lecture “Nature Worship and Dehumanization: Romantic Poetry as Biopoetics?” by Dr. Matthias Kern on June 23, 2026, at TU Dresden.
French Romantic poetry is characterized by the special significance accorded to nature. Literary scholars often refer to the creation of a “correspondence landscape” intended to reflect the sensibilities of the poetic self.
In his lecture, Matthias Kern explores how modern approaches from biopoetics shed new light on the poetry of Lamartine or Alfred de Vigny, thereby revealing the emergence of an awareness of nature.
As part of the lecture series Upheaval and New Beginnings: Romanticism Born of the Spirit of Revolution? by Bettina Lindorfer.
Guests are warmly welcome.
