Do we even need to master foreign languages ourselves anymore, when AI can translate in seconds? Is it enough to be able to “prompt well” instead of mastering a language? And what does this mean for school, college, and careers once AI has long been part of everyday life?
Amid a mix of euphoria and skepticism, recent studies paint a contradictory picture: AI can support and personalize learning processes, yet significant gaps in understanding may still exist. In this lecture and discussion, we’ll explore these tensions through five theses and aim to demonstrate that mastering and learning languages involves far more than mere technical translation.
When? Friday, June 26, 2026, 7:00–8:00 p.m.
Where? TUD Auditorium Center, Room 108, Bergstraße 64, 01069 Dresden
