Questions about the City, the University and the living at Uni Trento:
Trento, a city on the Adige river, in Trentino-Alto Adige / Südtirol, is the capital of the autonomous province of Trento. The city is located in north-eastern Italy, about 100 km north of Verona. The valley is a wide glacial valley known as the Adige valley, surrounded by the most beautiful peaks of the Dolomite Mountains, that offers beautiful landscapes and breathtaking routes.
Located in the heart of Trento's historical centre, the University comprehends 11 departments (8 of which with a title of excellence). About 17,000 students are enrolled at University of Trento (including 1,300 international students) and more than 700 professors and researchers. The university offers:
- 27 Bachelor's degree programmes and single-cycle Master's degree programmes and 41 Master's degree programmes, many of which are in English.
- 7 libraries and many reading rooms
- language centre
- sport centres
- 5 canteens
- Annual "free circulation" ticket on all public transport in Trentino for 50 euros.
- Summer Schools in various scientific fields.
In the World University Rankings 2021, the northern Italian university occupies the category of positions from 301 to 350 (out of 1,390 universities evaluated).
The CENSIS ranking 2020/2021 ranked the Università Trento the best university in both the general ranking of state universities and in the ranking of medium-sized universities. Trento earned a good position in the World University Ranking 2021. The University ranked in the 301-350 group oft he 1527 examined universities worldwide.
The University of Trento offers more than 1,500 rooms in residences and flats allaround the city, each oft hem is well connected to the faculties. It is also possible to stay in neighbouring villages: Gardolo, Mesiano, Povo, which are a 10-minute bus or bicycle ride from the university, offer good accommodations in quiet areas. Alternatively, students can opt for private accommodation. In addition to many Facebook groups (AAA Appartamenti studenti Trento, AFFITO STUDENTI TRENTO, AFFITO PER STUDENTI A TRENTO) where students can find roommates and accomodations, internationals can search for a free room on the HousingAnywhere portal or organise an exchange with Italian students. This option is particularly convenient.
In addition to the described advantages of the University of Trento, Trento is a small city of approximately 115,000 inhabitants. The sustainable development of the entire region plays as a big role as the cultivation of (northern) Italian traditions. In 2014, Trento was named one of the 10 "smart cities" in the world and is also one of the cities with the highest quality of life in the country according to various rankings. For leisure, there is a wide range of cultural activities (including museums, film festivals, etc.) as well as numerous opportunities for sporting activities not only in Trento but in the entire province.
The winter semester in Trento starts approximately in mid-September and ends with the Christmas holidays (21st December). The summer semester starts approximately in mid-February and ends in early June.
There are several exam dates for each course: in January and February for the winter semester; in June, July and September for the summer semester.
